Our Base at Vermenton

Vermenton is 310 miles from Calais which as far as boat ownership is concerned, makes it easy to leave the UK in the morning and reach your destination (Vermenton) with time for a nice shower and a quick nap on board before setting off for a meal in a local restaurant and an evening out.

The port at Vermenton is friendly and well equipped, capable of carrying out major or minor maintenance work and specialises in the EuroClassics. It is a haven for boating enthusiasts and already caters for a number of boats that are currently using the port. It is situated some twenty minutes away from the major town of Auxerre which is an attractive 17th century town and an ideal place for shopping and entertainment.

The Canal du Nivernais runs through the centre of France and is often described as its most beautiful waterway. Along the way you will pass vineyards, villages and small towns all with places to moor your boat overnight. Very few places charge for this service. You have the choice of cafes / bars, small restaurants - normally family owned - and places to purchase your baguettes and wine or other provisions. Many famous red wines are produced in Burgundy, and of course Chablis the best known white; all are a lot cheaper than in the UK.
